Lamar Smith is a Fort Worth-based executive, author, and former decorated U.S. Air Force combat pilot whose career spans military service, financial leadership, and executive mentorship.

Smith began his career in the United States Air Force, where he served as a highly decorated special operations and combat search-and-rescue pilot during the Vietnam War. His military experience laid the foundation for a leadership philosophy centered on discipline, service, and decision-making under pressure.

After leaving the military, he joined First Command Financial Services in 1977 and rose through the ranks to become Chief Executive Officer in 1992, leading the company for over a decade. During his tenure, he helped grow First Command into a nationally recognized financial services firm focused on serving military families and professionals.

Following his time as CEO, Smith remained active in leadership and advisory roles, including serving as Chairman of multiple organizations and board member positions across business and nonprofit sectors in Fort Worth. He has also been involved with faith-based and leadership development initiatives such as HOPE Farm and Search Ministries.

In addition to his corporate career, Smith is an author and speaker focused on leadership, personal development, and purpose-driven living, drawing from lessons learned across “four seasons” of life.
